Immigration policy

Editorial by Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles about why he instructed the priests in his archdiocese to continue to provide charity and relief to illegal immigrants in contravention to a new federal law. Bravo to him!

  5. Seems to me that immigration law is mostly a protectionist policy that needs to be broken up. The US government simply wants to benefit from a global (labor) economy without risking its own labor market. Hence also a reason, among security concerns, they’re limiting government contracts to vendors who outsource to other countries.
The function of a government is to protect its own people and interests above those outside of their country, but it seems to me these policies are doing more harm than good since cheap labor keeps prices down for their own people by having immigrants perform jobs that Americans hardly do anyways.
